I bought an piece of furniture at a garage sale and it needed to be repainted. I used primer where the wood rings had shown through and started to paint with a semi-gloss white and you can see the brush strokes...I even bought a Purdy paint brush. Can you use spray paint? Anyone with any ';good'; advice? Can someone help me with advice on repainting a piece of furniture?
If it is a flat surface you are trying to paint. You don't use a brush. Go to the hardware and get a sponge type roller. They are usually a black regular shaped roller, but made of a very tight sponge material. That will take care of the brush marks. Use the brush on legs or other detailed areas , not flat areas. Good choice in Purdy brush. Best brush ,and will last forever if you take care of it. Can someone help me with advice on repainting a piece of furniture?
i use spray paint all the time it looks great . you can even use the cheap stuff at walmart like 1 dollar a can just be careful not to let it run i do it out side when it's not windy . i also did animal print made a copy of the pattern on the printer than copy to clear plastic cut out with a blade and did a table top spray paint 2 colors it turned out fab . i sold it for 100 dollars and only paid 5 for the paint and got the table free
Not much you can do about the brush marks.
Could try light sanding , but stripping at this point would be best.
Painted quite a few pieces when I had my shop.
Had spray equipt but , spray cans are just fine as well as auto spotting putty for dings .
Same as painting a car.
Take care of dents , prime %26amp; paint.
Already have a good brush %26amp; paint ..could use brush for inside corners %26amp; a small mohair roller.for flat surfaces will allow for thinner application of primer %26amp; paint.
Not you or the brush.
The paint is thick for furniture %26amp; meant to be rolled or brushed out on walls or trim.
The slight texture from rolling may hide brushmarks if they are not too bad.
Spray enamels %26amp; auto paint are more durable than semi gloss latex or oil based paint , but if you can knock down the brushmarks %26amp; re prime
you can get good results by switching to a roller.
Best regards
You don't want to use a brush on a smooth surface for just the reason you are saying. They sell foam brushes that work much better with the glossier finishes. If you would rather do spray paint make sure you do very thin coats and let them dry in between to make sure the paint doesn't run. I would suggest practicing on a piece of cardboard or something first to perfect your technique.
Good luck!
First thing you should do is rough u all the surfaces to be painted with sand paper. Then prime all the parts to be painted. You can use spray paint, just apply it lightly in even strokes to avoid streaking.
